Wonderful Writing

In the First and Second  Class room, we just love to write. We can express ourselves clearly and in our own unique style. We all enjoy writing about our experiences in school. Below are some of the samples of work from our trip to Curraghchase. We did a lot of “Brainstorming” about the trip before we put our thoughts down on paper. This sharing of ideas helps everyone with their writing.

We always remember to write clearly and neatly and that all of our letters must sit on the line! No jumping beans!!! Before each writing lesson we revise the three “p”s of handwriting

  1. Posture-that we are sitting correctly.
  2. Pencil grip-that we are holding our pencil correctly.
  3. Page-that our page is slightly tilted.

We take our time and remember the following rules when we write.

  • Say the sentence in your head before you write it down.
  • Always start a sentence with a capital letter and end it with a full stop (or question/exclamation mark).
  • Use lots of WOW words.
  • Always give proper nouns a capital letter.
  • Reread the sentence once you have written it.
  • Avoid using the word “then” at the start of a sentence.
  • Never start a sentence with “and” or “because”

When we are finished, we reread what we have written to try to find any mistakes that we might have made. We then draw a nice picture to go with the piece of writing. Sometimes we have a nice border around the page and we always colour this too. This ensures that our page and piece of writing is beautifully presented.

It is great to see our beautiful work hanging up in our classroom for all to admire. We are very proud of our writing.
