Our Wonderful Grandparents Day at St. Fergus’!

Congratulations to all the wonderful special people in our lives who came to help us to celebrate Grandparents’ Day on Wednesday 1st February 2017. As part of Catholic Schools’ Week, we wanted to honour and remember the Nannas and Grandads who do so much to help us and who spoil us with treats, stories and days of fun.

In our packed Halla which was decorated in artwork for the occasion, we prayed in thanksgiving for those who could not be with us as well as for those who could. A basket containing photos of those who were not able to attend, for whatever reason, was brought to the altar during the Prayer Service. Afterwards, each class performed a “party piece” for their audience. The Infants sang, “You Are My Sunshine”, First and Second sang, “Irish Molly-O”, Third and Fourth played “Fáinne Geal and Lae” and Fifth and Sixth sang a song called “All About My Gramps”-a real “earworm”! We also had a medley from a number of pupils from 1st-5th. They sang, played, and danced-a real treat for all. Each Grandparent was presented with a certificate of attendance and a special poem about grandchildren. Paddy and Carmel Dunne were honoured as being the grandparents with the most grandchildren in the school, with 7 boys and 1 girl, ranging from Junior Infants to 4th class.

While Geraldine snapped the Grandparents with their beautiful grandchildren, the adults had tea and coffee and a good old natter. Happy memories were shared and hopefully another one made through the course of the afternoon.

Thank you to all who attended and contributed to one of the highlights of our school year!
