Science with Scott: Gravity

Image1

In the infant room, we really enjoyed our morning with Scott during Science Week. Scott taught us all about gravity. We first learnt about gravity using our whole body. We did lots of jumping up and down. Scott explained that gravity was the force that pulled us down to the ground.

Then we carried out an experiment with spinning tops. We tested how long we could make a spinning top spin.

First we tested how many seconds the top would spin with the weight placed up high.

Then we tested how many seconds the top would spin with the weight placed down low.

We counted out the time using ‘real’ seconds. Scott explained that real seconds are a fairer way as sometimes people count too fast. Each time we counted we had to clap to mark a real second.

We discovered that the spinning top would spin for longer when the weight was down low. This was because of gravity. When the weight was placed up high, gravity pulled it down faster.

We loved learning about Science with Scott. We can’t wait for next year!!
