Women’s 6 Nations Rugby

CIMG1658

In our ongoing efforts to encourage all types of sport for all, we were delighted to welcome Ireland Women’s Rugby’s No. 5, Maz Riley to the school on Thursday the 9th September. She brought the Women’s  6 Nations Cup which she won with the Irish squad last year. She was on a tour of schools in the area, in an effort to promote rugby among girls.

As we gathered around our new “Play Rugby” Flag, (kindly donated by the club) we got a feel of what it was like to play sport at the highest level. Maz told us of her background and how she started to play rugby. She also showed some of the children how to score a try and to participate in a scrum. Standing at 6ft3″ tall she even left our very own Ms Dillane beneath her, in every photograph. The cup was a huge hit with the children as was the lady herself. She remained behind afterwards to sign autographs and to chat to the Active Committee about our upcoming application for the Active Flag.

Thanks also to Maz’s brother Kieran and to the local girls from the club who accompanied our celeb on the visit. The future of Women’s Rugby looks bright!

A great sporting start to another great year!
